Evacsak Product Review

This is an unpaid unsolicited product review for the Evacsak.

I have always had pets and I have always tried to have a plan for them in the event I needed to evacuate. I even had a “Grab & Go” kit for our pet guinea pig Honey. You know that animal lovers do not want to leave their beloved pets behind. Normally they are faced with two choices. 1. Stay with their pet, which could very well endanger their life or 2. Leave their pet behind and be subjected to enormous guilt and worry.

I recently ran across this amazing product, the Evacsak. You say…..”What do I need that for? I have a pet carrier.” But…do you know where it is? Is it put together and readily available? Could you get to it if you had to “Grab & Go”? With the over the soldier strap the Evacsak leaves both hand free for you to take care of your children or carry other items.

The Evacsak comes on two sizes and is designed for cats, small dogs, smaller reptiles and birds.

The Evacsak is recommended by the Used and Recommended by Humane Societies and Animal Rescue Organizations since 1992.

Don’t wait. Don’t our best friends deserved the same considerations as our other family members. I am going to get my Evacsak ASAP.

Emergency preparedness is just one of my obsessions. My husband is doing that whole “eye roll” thing right now and saying “no shit”! We’ll see who’s doing the “eye roll” thing when we’re having one of our power outages (or worse) and he has a full belly!!!

Hurricane Hanna and Ike again remind us of the importance of having our 72-hour kits updated and ready to go. Go to my 72-Hour Kits Page (tab at top) or just click HERE for information on how to put your 72-Hour kits together.

I noticed the hit rate on my 72-Hour Kits page went up about 1000% just before Hurricane Hanna and hasn’t stopped yet. DON’T WAIT UNTIL YOU NEED ONE. Put your kit together now and put it away. Then it will be ready when you need it.

If you already have a kit, check it for expiration dates. Make sure everything is good and then put it back where you can easily get to it!

And…a quick note on your gas tank. Get in the habit of filling up at the 1/2 full mark. I am really bad about that. But, it will cut down on a whole lot of panic if you have to evacuate.

The photo above is a summer shot of what’s left of Mount St. Helens in Washington State after her infamous blow on May 18, 1980. 61 people died. We may not have hurricanes in Washington but I live less than 30 miles from the summit of Mt. St. Helens!! So, I have my own little things that can wreak havoc on my day!!

(This post was originally posted on Ms Sparky on May 23, 2008. I moved it to Your Emergency Plan when I separated my personal blog from my political blog.)

A recent AP article came out discussing the 2008 hurricane predictions from NOAA, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. READ IT!

“US GOVERNMENT: UP TO 9 ATLANTIC HURRICANES IN 2008″ published by the Associated Press on May 22, 2008.

Wildfires, floods, and weird weather has been occurring all over. Hurricanes predicted in the East, earthquakes predicted in the Midwest and California, tsunamis predicted on the west coast, tornadoes happening everywhere. These are all being “scientifically” predicted. If they are going to happen there is nothing anyone can do to stop them. Hoping these things never happen to you is normal. Not planning for them is naive.

A little pre-planning doesn’t make you a “doomsday-ist”. Being just a little bit prepared could alleviate a whole lot of stress and aggravation and could possibly save your life or the lives of your family members. If you find yourself in a situation where you need to use your 72-Hour Kits, then they will be available. If you find you never have t use them, better yet! It’s kind of like the seat belts in your car. You put them on just in case. Putting them on after an accident is too late.

I have several pages (tabs at top) designed to help you get your 72-hour kits ready. It’s free. I’m not trying to sell anything. It’s information that I have gathered from the internet, Red Cross and my own personal experiences. I truly believe in this. I give you information to put them together yourself a little at a time or you can buy them already put together from hundreds of suppliers and be done with it.

Every time there is a disaster, people are unprepared and “can’t believe this happened to them”. They have to wait for State, Federal and charitable organizations to bring them supplies. Wouldn’t it be great if you didn’t have to wait for food and water to arrive to feed your hungry children?

Anything can happen anytime, anywhere. Please take the time to inform and prepare yourself and your family.

The whole country is getting ready to spend the Thanksgiving Holiday with friends and family. Can you smell the turkey cooking.? The aroma of homemade bread and pumpkin pie permeating the house? I’m drooling!! I can’t wait to get there.

Millions of families are going to jump in the car and hit the highways. They will be focused on one thing and one thing only…Grandmas Pumpkin Pie.

Little thought will be given to car except making sure it has fuel. It seems every year we hear of tragic incidents of motorists getting lost or stranded. What if there is an accident and you are stuck on the highway for hours. I remember one year Interstate 5 was close in southern Oregon due to snow and hundreds of people were stranded for a couple days. They had to send emergency supplies in via snowmobiles.

ALWAYS check weather and road conditions. The Weather Channel has up to date forecasts. Program the road condition numbers for the states you will be traveling through, into your cell phone.

Just a little preparation can make a world of difference. Here’s a little excerpt from my “Car Kits” Page
Be sure to check out the rest of the list.

Water-ALWAYS carry a couple gallons of bottled water in your vehicle. Cycle your water regularly. Watch for overheating in the summertime and freezing in the winter.
Blanket-A warm blanket can come in handy for a variety of reasons. Fold it small and tight, put it in a plastic garbage bag and just forget about it.
Food - Pick foods that will not be affected by temperature extremes such as crackers, granola bars and so on. Rotate these foods on a regular basis.
Wetwipes-For a quick clean up.
Toilet Paper - It’s worth a millions dollars when you need it and don’t have it.

A basic car safety kit is always advisable go to my “Car Kits” Page or Click HERE for a great selection of ready to use kits.

Don’t forget to throw in some fun activities for the kids.

Safe travels and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

California Fire Forces Evacuations Near Santa Barbara

Nov. 14 - About 4,500 residents of the celebrity enclave of Montecito, California, are fleeing a fire whipped by high winds that has burned more than 1,500 acres and destroyed or damaged at least 60 homes.

The blaze began at 5:50 p.m. Los Angeles time yesterday in the Los Padres National Forest, and more than 1,100 firefighters have been deployed, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, also known as Cal Fire. About 1,500 homes are threatened.

“This continues to be a dangerous fire and residents should remain aware of local conditions and be prepared to respond to any warnings,” the Santa Barbara County Fire Department said in a statement.

Montecito is southeast of Santa Barbara and about 73 miles (118 kilometers) up the coast from Los Angeles. Actors including Michael Douglas own property there. In addition to those who fled the area, officials have urged another 4,500 to consider leaving, Cal Fire said in a statement.

The area is under a red-flag warning until tomorrow from the National Weather Service in Oxnard, meaning conditions exist that will create explosive fire-weather conditions. (Read More Here)

This is just tragic. These people weren’t expecting this or anything like this. I have to ask…..”How many were prepared?” Did they have their Grab & Go kits packed and ready to go. Did they know where all their important documents were? Did they have a rendezvous plan?

I hope so. Check out my Grab & Go page and get prepared.

….Doesn’t mean it isn’t true!

“I am cross-posting this from Ms Sparky because I think this is something to seriously consider”

When I first saw this article, I was again infuriated by the apparent mind set of the DoD. I seems clear to me the DoD thinks there are no other contractors in the world that can carry out these contracts other than KBR. That’s completely WRONG!!! It looked like one more gift to KBR before the Administration changed. But it’s starting to look like there’s more to it.

KBR to provide power during emergencies

Published: Nov. 11, 2008 at 3:03 PM
HOUSTON, Nov. 11 (UPI) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has contracted KBR to provide power during emergency or disaster situations.

U.S. company KBR was awarded a $75 million deal from the Army Corps or Engineers for disaster relief services. Under the contract, KBR will supply emergency power for the Western region of the United States in case of a natural or manmade disaster.

KBR officials say during an emergency situation they will provide labor, transportation and equipment, among other services, to support power requirements for designated critical public facilities.

“This award allows KBR the opportunity to expand our capabilities portfolio in the government and infrastructure business to include emergency response, an area of growth due to recent natural disasters,” Bruce Stanski, KBR government and infrastructure president, said in a statement.

“We look forward to continuing our relationship with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in this new area and are committed to providing the premier services the Army Corps has come to expect of KBR.” (End)

Then I recalled another article I had read in the Army Times about a month ago.

Brigade homeland tours start Oct. 1

3rd Infantry’s 1st BCT trains for a new dwell-time mission. Helping ‘people at home’ may become a permanent part of the active Army

By Gina Cavallaro - Staff writer Army Times
Posted : Tuesday Sep 30, 2008 16:16:12 EDT

The 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore essential services and escorting supply convoys.

Now they’re training for the same mission — with a twist — at home.

Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.

It is not the first time an active-duty unit has been tapped to help at home. In August 2005, for example, when Hurricane Katrina unleashed hell in Mississippi and Louisiana, several active-duty units were pulled from various posts and mobilized to those areas.

But this new mission marks the first time an active unit has been given a dedicated assignment to NorthCom, a joint command established in 2002 to provide command and control for federal homeland defense efforts and coordinate defense support of civil authorities. (Read More)

And then there’s this.

FEMA sources confirm coming martial law

Wayne Madsen
Online Journal
October 13, 2008

WMR has learned from knowledgeable Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) sources that the Bush administration is putting the final touches on a plan that would see martial law declared in the United States with various scenarios anticipated as triggers. The triggers include a continuing economic collapse with massive social unrest, bank closures resulting in violence against financial institutions, and another fraudulent presidential election that would result in rioting in major cities and campuses around the country.

In addition, Army Corps of Engineer sources report that the assignment of the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team (BCT) to the Northern Command’s U.S. Army North is to augment FEMA and federal law enforcement in the imposition of traffic controls, crowd control, curfews, enhanced border and port security, and neighborhood patrols in the event a national emergency being declared. The BCT was assigned to duties in Iraq before being assigned to the Northern Command.

On April 3, 2008, WMR reported on a highly-classified document regarding the martial law scenario: WMR has learned from knowledgeable sources within the US financial community that an alarming confidential and limited distribution document is circulating among senior members of Congress and their senior staff members that is warning of a bleak future for the United States if it does not quickly get its financial house in order. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is among those who have reportedly read the document.

The document is being called the “C & R” document because it reportedly states that if the United States defaults on loans and debt underwriting from China, Japan, and Russia, all of which are propping up the United States government financially, and the United States unilaterally cancels the debts, America can expect a war that will have disastrous results for the United States and the world. “Conflict” is the “C word” in the document. The other scenario is that the federal government will be forced to drastically raise taxes in order to pay off debts to foreign countries to the point that the American people will react with a popular revolution against the government. “Revolution” is the document’s “R word. (End)

So…am I being paranoid? Or is it time to stock up?
